Cape Breton County Minor Hockey Association will be hosting the Annual General Meeting on Thursday May 31, 2012 at the County Recreation Centre in Coxheath at 7:00. There are several executive and standing committee positions available for election and reports from all committees will be presented. There will also be an addition and an amendment to our by-laws for approval. All members in good standing are urged to attend. Please visit our website for further information at cbcmha.ca.

Atom A had a Great Time at Provincials

Atom A went 0-4 in Provincial play but played some very good hockey. The boys had a great weekend and really had a lot of fun. A big thank you to all of the kids, coaches and parents who made this such an enjoyable season. The team had a very successful season in league and tournament play. They did collect some hardware this year winning 2 banners and gold metals and a silver in tournament play. Have a great summer guys, you all should be proud of yourselves for the season you had!

Our players did a great job in the Skills competition as well. James Hines won the accuracy shooting. Matt Campbell finished 2^nd in fastest skater and Omar Gould (puck control), Carter MacKay (backwards skating), Josh Munroe (breakaway challenge) and Chad Ayre (Goalie) showed very well in their events as well. A great effort overall.

Atom Girls win Fair Play Banner at Provincials

Our Atom girls fell short down in Pictou at provincials… But walked away with the “FAIR PLAY BANNER”. The girls played hard all weekend and also showed EVERYONE what fun our County Girls have as a team.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BANNER GIRLS….WELL DESERVED!!

Also in the Skills competition our girls finished up with three top two finishes and a 3rd and 4th ….. Great Job……

Bantam AA are the Cape Breton Hockey League Season Champions

The Cape Breton County Bantam AA Islanders are the Cape Breton Hockey League season champions, the Cape Breton Cup Winners and are heading to provincials in Cole Harbour, March 29-April 1. At the league Banquet a number of players received individual awards as well: Tyler MacLeod-Top Goalie and 1^st team all star team; Reilly O’Rourke-1^st team all star; Jonathan Oakey-2^nd team all star; Michael Cremo-2^nd team all star; and Daniel Reid-Rookie of the year and Rookie all star team.

County Atom A Win Nustar Tournament

The County Atom A Islanders have done it again! The past weekend the captured the gold medal and another championship banner by winning the Nustar (Straight Richmond) tournament. The county went a perfect 4-0 during the tournament. They won the final 8-4 vs. Sydney!

Congrats to the Atom A team, a great win heading into Provincials next week!

Bantam A Female Team Wins Ron Elliott Memorial Tournament!

The Bantam A Female Islanders traveled to Amherst for the Ron Elliott Memorial Tournament and returned home with a banner and wearing some new gold bling!

In the final round robin game our girls tied Tyne Valley, PEI, in a hard-fought battle that guaranteed them 1st place and a meeting with the East Hants Penquins in the final. The Islanders posted a 2-1-1 round robin record before taking the final with a convincing 6-0 win. In the final Erin Bursey, for the 5th consecutive game, scored our all-important 1st goal and added another later in the game, giving her 6 for the tournament. Sarah “Bob” Arseneau chipped in with a pair as well, her 2nd & 3rd of the tournament. Andrea Pyke and Courtney Curran rounded out the Islanders’

scoring. Shyla Huntington sparkled in posting the shutout, her 2nd of the weekend. In 5 games, Shyla allowed only 4 goals with many saves of the spectacular variety, bringing the horn-blowing fans to their feet. Genevieve Andrea, Valerie McCarron and Erin Kenny with 2 also chipped in with goals in the earlier games.

Most importantly, the tournament victory was a consummate team effort with every player making valuable contributions. Putting hard-learned lessons from a tough season to good use, the Islanders controlled the play in every game, looking after their own end and putting constant pressure on their opponents at the other end. Marissa MacInnis and Sarah deVries, the wingers on the “Rookies” line, were solid defensively and constant threats offensively. Andrea MacNeil was a rock on defense and rushed the puck strongly to relieve pressure. Taryn Julian had a breakthrough weekend, playing very strong defense and contributing more than ever on offense.

All year, the County Bantam Female team has represented the association with pride, with effort and with sportsmanship, if not with many wins … until now!

ATOM A is headed to Provincials in Western Valley (Middleton) the weekend of March 23-25^th. The Atom A team confirmed their spot with a 5-2 win over the Truro Bearcats in Debert on Saturday, March 3^rd.

Atom Female Team advances to Provincials

The Atom girls pulled out a huge win over Northside at CBU this past Sunday and are now headed to the Provincials March 23-25 in New Glasgow….. Great job girls and best of luck at Provincials!!!!
